Introduction
During the processing and end-use of polymeric materials, exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation causes degradation phenomena such as cracking, chalking, and yellowing, negatively affecting both appearance and physical performance. UV Absorbers are critical formulation additives designed to mitigate these issues by absorbing harmful UV energy and protecting materials against photo-degradation.
Mechanism of Action
UV absorbers absorb UV light within the wavelength range of $280\text{–}400\text{ nm}$ and convert it into harmless thermal energy for release, thereby preventing polymer chain scission and free radical generation. When synergistically combined with HALS (Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers) or antioxidants, light stability and weatherability are further enhanced.
Why Choose UV Absorbers?
Delay Degradation: Delays yellowing, cracking, and physical property loss.
Extend Service Life: Enhances product light fastness and long-term durability.
Broad Compatibility: Suitable for various polymer systems with high processing stability.
Synergistic Performance: Can be combined with HALS and antioxidants for enhanced protective effects.
