What is Mica?

Mica is a natural mineral characterized by a platy structure, excellent electrical insulation, thermal resistance, and chemical stability. Its unique physical and chemical properties make it play an indispensable role across various industrial applications, including engineering plastics, coatings, and building materials. As a functional filler, mica powder enhances mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and weather resistance, while offering good processability and superior surface appearance in specific formulations.

Classification and Sources of Mica

Mica belongs to the silicate mineral group with a layered structure (phyllosilicates). Depending on chemical composition and color, it is classified into several types, including Muscovite, Phlogopite, Biotite, Lepidolite, and Sericite. Among these, Muscovite and Phlogopite are the most common industrial grades due to their outstanding electrical insulation, thermal resistance, and processing stability.

JUYEE currently supplies mica products primarily consisting of Muscovite (sourced from the UK) and Phlogopite (sourced from Finland). Both are extracted from high-quality European mineral sources, processed through screening and grinding to produce high-stability mica powders. These products are widely utilized in engineering plastics, coatings, and electronic insulation materials, with multiple particle size and purity grade options available to meet diverse formulation needs.

Industrial Applications of Mica

MicaFort is a high-quality mica product supplied by LKAB Minerals, featuring consistent particle size distribution and high purity. It is primarily applied in the following three major sectors:

  • Coatings (Corrosion Protection Applications)

    • The platy structure and chemical inertness of mica form a dense barrier, effectively boosting the impermeability and weather resistance of coating films. It is widely used in anti-corrosion coatings and industrial coating formulations.

  • Engineering Plastics (PP, Nylon, etc.)

    • Incorporating mica powder significantly improves anti-warping properties, dimensional stability, and rigidity while enhancing heat resistance and surface smoothness. It is ideal for high-performance plastic products such as automotive parts and electronic enclosures.

  • Building Materials

    • Mica can be utilized in wall coatings, fireproof boards, and composite building materials to help improve weather resistance, structural stability, and surface texture, offering excellent processability and environmental durability.

JUYEE currently provides MicaFort mica products—including both Phlogopite and Muscovite grades—offering a wide selection of particle sizes and grades tailored to your formulation needs to help optimize performance and processing efficiency.
